GALA Newsletter - Electronic Submittal Format Policy
Notice to GALA Newsletter Advertisers

In an effort to make it easier for you to place your ads AND to improve the overall quality, we will start to accept your ads in certain, electronic formats. I’ve asked Paul Dorang to provide us with the formatting guidelines and they are detailed below. This change goes into effect with the April Newsletter so you now have the option of camera ready or electronic. Regardless of which you choose, please continue to send all ads to me.

The following electronic formats are preferred and acceptable:

PDF – Files done in a publishing program should be printed to Acrobat Distiller using the (Press) setting. Additional settings should be Embed all Fonts and Color Set to Grayscale. All scanned photos used in your ad should be at least 300 dpi.

TIF – Files done in a Photo/Paint (Raster) type program can be saved as a .tif file. The files must be at least 300 dpi. Because Raster based programs use pixels to create images, sometimes type becomes jagged looking. To minimize this jagged look, try to stay away from smaller-type sizes.

JPG - Files done in a Photo/Paint (Raster) type program can be saved as a .jpg file. The files must be at least 300 dpi. Because Raster based programs use pixels to create images, sometimes type becomes jagged looking. To minimize this jagged look, try to stay away from smaller-type sizes. Always save at least at Medium quality.

EPS – Files done in Illustration/Publishing (Vector) type programs can be saved or exported as .eps files. If the program allows you to set a dpi for the file, set it to a minimum of 800 dpi. Make sure Embed all Fonts is selected. All photos in the file should be at least 300 dpi.

Word documents – For those of you who are planning on creating an ad in Microsoft Word, save it as a .doc file. This format is not preferred because embedding fonts is not an option on this program. If you must use this format, please make sure that you use the basic fonts that all versions of Word include. All photos in the file should be at least 300 dpi.
